Typeglow Privacy Policy

Applies to Typeglow 2.1.1 for Chrome and 2.2.1 for Safari on Mac · Updated 10 October 2026

Your subtitle text, preferences and font files stay on your device.

Thunder Lokki provides Typeglow, a browser extension that changes how subtitles look on YouTube and Netflix. This policy explains the extension's local data handling, its Safari containing app, this website and information you voluntarily send to support.

Subtitle text and language detection

On YouTube and Netflix, Typeglow reads the subtitle lines currently displayed on screen. A language detector bundled with the extension processes those lines locally to estimate the current cue's language and apply the font you assigned to that language, or your default font.

The current cue text and detected language may be cached in tab memory and on caption elements in the page. This temporary information is discarded when the tab is reloaded or closed. Subtitle text is not saved to extension storage or sent to Thunder Lokki or another server.

Settings and fonts stored on your device

Typeglow uses your browser's local extension storage for subtitle style settings, language-to-font assignments, presets, saved subtitle positions and font files you choose to add. A counter used by the preset shortcut is kept in browser session storage until the browser closes. Typeglow does not use browser sync storage or a cloud account for this data.

Choosing a font file imports it into local extension storage. The file is not uploaded to a server.

Imported fonts remain subject to their own licenses. Read our font licensing and usage notice before adding a file.

Tab addresses and subtitle dragging

When you open Typeglow or use one of its shortcuts, it checks the active tab's address to determine whether it is a supported YouTube or Netflix page. It does not retain the address or collect your browsing history.

When you use Alt/Option and drag Netflix subtitles, Typeglow follows pointer movement to move them and saves the resulting position. It does not keep a log of your clicks, keystrokes or pointer activity.

Permissions and supported websites

Access to YouTube and Netflix lets Typeglow read displayed captions and apply subtitle styling on those sites. Local storage permissions let it save preferences and font files; unlimited storage supports larger collections of locally imported fonts. Its content scripts do not run on other websites.

Safari app on Mac

The Mac app included with Typeglow opens a local activation page and can open Safari Extensions settings so you can enable the extension. It checks whether the extension is enabled on your Mac. This activation app does not send that status to us, create an account or add analytics. The Safari extension processes captions and stores settings and imported fonts locally as described above.

Network requests, advertising and analytics

The extension does not send subtitle text, settings, font files or usage data over the network. Its fonts and language-detection code are bundled with it. It has no advertising, analytics, tracking services or remote application backend, and does not require a Typeglow account.

YouTube and Netflix operate independently of Typeglow and have their own accounts, network services and privacy policies.

Importing and exporting presets

If you choose to export presets, Typeglow saves a file to your device. Import reads the file you select locally. Thunder Lokki does not receive these files unless you separately choose to send them to us. Copies you share or save elsewhere are subject to that destination's privacy practices.

Limited use

Typeglow uses the information described above only to provide and support subtitle customization. It does not sell it or use it for advertising, credit decisions or unrelated purposes. Typeglow's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

This website and support email

This public policy page is hosted by Cloudflare. Loading it sends ordinary web request information, such as your IP address, requested URL and browser headers, to the hosting service to deliver and protect the website. We do not add website analytics, advertising scripts or tracking cookies to this page.

If you email support@thunderlokki.com, Thunder Lokki receives your sender address, message and any attachments you provide. We use this information to respond to your request and resolve reported issues. Support email is forwarded through Cloudflare Email Routing to a mailbox hosted by Google; those services process email according to their own privacy practices.

Deleting your data

You can remove custom fonts and saved presets through Typeglow's controls. Your browser manages extension storage and its removal; turning the extension off does not erase saved settings or fonts. For a complete removal, follow your browser's extension and website-data removal controls. Delete exported preset files and any copies you shared separately. Typeglow has no cloud database containing your subtitle settings or fonts.

For a request about information you voluntarily sent to support, email support@thunderlokki.com.

Changes to this policy

We will publish updates at this address when Typeglow's data practices change. The effective date appears above.
